Keith Flint Mural

On Sunday 19th September I was lucky enough to be in London and get the opportunity to document the latest work by Akse P19.

I had seen on his Instagram account that the crowdfunded project in association with Headstock had reached its target and he had started work. I have to admit I was hoping to see it in the process of being completed but, sadly, I couldn’t get there in time.

This is such an important piece which goes way beyond the art that we see in front of us: it has been created to try to raise awareness of mental health and was completed to coincide with this year’s World Suicide Prevention Day (10th September). Flint committed suicide in 2019: the mural is intended as a reminder of the importance of tackling mental health issues and looking out for our own and others’ wellbeing.

You will see that mental health charity and text support service, Shout 85258 features prominently with a number that visitors can use to contact the 24/7 support service.

There are some very obvious and tragic consequences of the pandemic that continue to affect the world but how much more trouble is being stored up and how much are people silently suffering? As this linked article from the British Medical Journal illustrates we don’t yet know the detail but one life lost is too many and anything that can be done to raise awareness is a good thing.
